I love my Mummy….

In an earlier post I gave a sneak peek to the Mummy I was in the process of making for Halloween.  I LOVE Halloween and every year I try and add a couple more fun decorations to our every growing collection of spooky things.  I especially like it when I am able to make this spooky something myself.

I have been eyeballing these creepy Mummy’s for a couple of years now, aren’t they just great?!?…
I think so too and I have really, really wanted one.  I didn’t however, want to spend the $100+ dollars a piece for one, so I had to get inventive and make one myself!  So with a little help from a friend with power tools, this is how our Mummy was made…
We started with this plywood cutout (we actually traced our handy friend with the power tools…that explains the goatee!)

I put an old long-sleeved shirt and one pant leg from a pair of sweatpants on my Mummy.  I taped him up using Gorilla tape and stuffed him with anything I could find…
scrap tulle…
shopping bags…yes, he’s green!
and even newspaper.  This head was from another project my girls and I did at Easter time, it was a decoupage egg.  Hey, whatever works right?!?
I also used batting, stuffing and even an old blanket to achieve the Mummy’s 3D effect.  He is very heavvvv-Y!!  Our handy friend also made a sturdy wooden stand so our Mummy can stand proud as he scares the living daylights out of our unsuspecting neighbor children { heee….heee....heee! }.
Here is our Mummy completed, all wrapped up in strips of old sheets.  I know, his arms are a bit short and I may try and fix ‘em.  But I may just leave ‘em that way for Halloween cuz it’s only a few days away he’s still creepy short arms and all, don’t ya think?
He stands about 6 feet tall!

This is a half Mummy my girls and I made last year that sits in our picture window.  For this Mummy we used;  a large pudding box, newspaper, duck tape, an old sheet and fake cobwebs then added plastic spiders.  Just looking at this gives me the heebie jeebies!   Oh, and can I just say?….how much do you love duck tape/Gorilla tape?!?…seriously, this stuff could be used to build houses!! Love it!

This Mummy was SUPER easy to make, if you are interested in how we did it let me know, I’ll share!
