Typography memory board for Michael…

My husband Michael celebrated a birthday yesterday.   He is VERY difficult to shop for, never mind 9 days after Christmas.
But because I don’t want his birthday to be forgotten by Christmas, I try to do something special for him each year.  This year I decided to make him a memory board using our new Cricut.  Santa brought this Cricut for me my girls {snicker…snicker...}.  My girls LOVE to scrapbook and Santa thought this would be great for them to use while working on their books (with my assistance).  Well it turns out that this Mama just loves using the Cricut !
The Cricut came with a basic font and a few shapes.  Just after Christmas however, I ordered 3 other font cartridges and some vinyl off of Ebay for my project.

I headed over to Lowes and purchased a pre-cut piece of wood (2′ x 3′).   I sanded and painted the board with a black satin and re-sanded and re-painted and then lightly distressed the edges.

I used different fonts and sizes while cutting out all of the words.  I started with M&M (for Michael and Michelle) and our wedding date just below.  Then I cut all of the places we have been as a couple and as a family.  I also added the word LOVE and each one of our kids names to the board.
This project was so fun to do ! I will say that attaching all of the words to the board was the most time consuming part,  but I really enjoyed piecing it all together while remembering the experience each place holds.
Michael loved it and he was so appreciative (he also got a Flip camcorder, WII fishing game and a coffee mug.  But quite honestly, he loved this homemade board the very best, which of course, tickled me pink :).  I forgot to added Myrtle Beach, Venice, Italy…and probably more, I will be adding them as soon as more vinyl comes in the mail, I ran out!
We hung the board just above the table in our kitchen.  I’m sure that Michael and I will enjoy reminiscing with each other and with our children for years to come.  I look forward to adding new places to our memory board as we make more unforgettable experiences.

Updated since my original post

**On a side note…if you own a Cricut already, Michael’s is having a Super Weekend sale on January 8th and 9th.  All Cricut cartridges will be on sale for $9.99 each, originally $69.99 !
