A special birthday & unexpected {but very welcomed} visitors…

My Mom’s birthday was this past Thursday.

I did get a chance to spend a little bit of time with her that day, when she helped me at a local fundraiser.

However, we never “formally” celebrated with a birthday dinner, a cake, candles, etc. until this evening.

We had planned all along to celebrate this weekend and that was just fine with my Mom.

She isn’t high maintenance, she’s a “go-with-the-flow-kinda-gal”.

We planned on easy.  Take out Sushi and an evening spent at our home with my parents and our kids.

Today the girls and I decided to make little napkin rings made from paper towel rolls, vintage sheet music, twine and buttons.

Yup, cloth napkins for Mammy’s day.

The girls love to craft so this was an easy, fun and quick project.

After our craft project, Myah was playing Wii in our living room.  She called me over in a panic saying “Mama, there’s a squirrel in the pumpkin, there’s a squirrel in the pumpkin, come quick!”

Well, sure enough there was!  There was a cute little squirrel in our Jack-o-Lantern, eating the pulp, popping his head in and out and having a grand ole’ time for himself!

I know, squirrels can be bothersome but really?!??, he’s a cute one!

So back to my Mom’s birthday dinner….

I have 2 sisters, both living a bit over an hour away on the North Shore.

I didn’t personally “invite” them over for dinner since it was just a casual dinner and I didn’t want them to feel pressured or obligated to come down.

Plus, my sister Donna was just here 2 weeks ago and spent time at my home, as well as our parents home so I really didn’t want her to make the trip back down.

I was surprised and thrilled to get a call from Donna around 2:30 today saying that she wanted to come down and surprise our Mom!

So after the soccer game, the girls and I set the table and got things ready for the “party”

And we set a special spot for Auntie Donna <3.

Donna arrived around 5:00, our parents were due to arrive around 5:30.

My sister and I are very close and when we are together it’s just right, easy, silly, genuine, perfect.

I was beyond excited to have my big sister here and she was so excited as well to share our Mom’s special day.

My girls who are 6 and 8, along with myself and my sister all hid when my Mom came through the door.

Then we blasted “I’ve gotta feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas and came out dancing!

It was perfect!

My Mom {and Dad} were thrilled!

They even brought their friend Marion to join in on the celebration.

It was perfect.

Perfect night.

Perfect surprises.

Perfect celebration.

Perfect wishes….

Happy birthday Mammy!

We love you and are so blessed to call you Mom, Mammy, Mama and friend.

xoxo…
