Handmade gifts for my guy…

I was very excited to give many handmade gifts this Christmas.

Actually, tickled pink to be honest!

I hope the recipients were just as thrilled to receive these gifts, as they were made with so much love and care.

I made my husband a few gifts as well, and I was so excited for him to open them on Christmas morning.

He’s a tough bugger to shop for, but I knew he would really love and appreciate the thought and effort that was put into these two gifts.

{ I also received a few lovely handmade gifts from family and friends, maybe I’ll share those soon }

 The first gift I made, is a sailboat using 2 pieces of driftwood, some small nails, a few eye hooks, string and some scrap fabric.
I first saw a driftwood sailboat a while back via The Lettered Cottage  and kept it in mind, especially since my husband LOVES boats and boating!
If you’ve never visited The Lettered Cottage, GO! ~ Layla and Kevin just do things right !

The sailboat is not too big, measuring about 16″ wide by 15″ tall.

Perfect for our mantle though.

I got the idea for my next gift for Michael from Lil’ Blue Boo’s blog.

Ashley has a wonderful tutorial you can follow, SO incredibly talented (and beautiful), and just such a trooper! (stay strong lady!)

I’m not much of a painter at all however, with Ashley’s step by step tutorial, I was able to create my own glazed distressed painted canvases.

I am really pleased with how my 2 canvas turned out too!

Especially the meaning they hold.

The first one reads “In HIGH tide”

Second one reads “and in LOW”

And “i do.” very subtle on the bottom corner.

This comes from part of our vows from our wedding ~ July 27th, 2002.

I was coined the “Tide Bride” by our friend and Priest Fr. George Bergin, and he had a lot of fun with it!

You see, we chose our wedding date according to a weekend where the tide was at it’s highest, and during mid-afternoon.

Our reception was held in our yard, which overlooks the Bay and is at it’s prettiest during a higher tide.

Anyway, if you are so inclined, I’ve embedded part of our vows here….

{ be warned, I’m a cornball :) }
