Driftwood jewelry tree

On a recent trip to Michael’s, while perusing the unfinished wood department, I got an idea.

Seriously, I wasn’t looking for anything in particular, but when I saw the wooden dowels it was like a lightbulb went off in my brain!

“I should totally make a jewelry tree!”

( I know, I don’t get it either it’s just how my brain works ! )

Originally I was going to buy a thicker dowel to use as the trunk part of my “tree”, and that’s when lightbulb number 2 went off…

“I’ll use a piece of driftwood that I already have !”

So I started to fill my cart with the things I would need to make my tree.

Here is what I bought:

::  A package of small wooden dowels

::  A package of larger wooden dowels

::  An unfinished wooden base

( total cost $6.00 )

Here are the other things I needed for this project that I already had at home:

::  Gorilla wood glue

::  Curvy piece of driftwood

::  Paint

::  Screw (for the base)

I was so excited when I got home, I got right to work.

This was a pretty quick project and one that anyone could do.

Seriously!

Here is how I made my driftwood jewelry tree.

I painted the wooden base of the tree.

(no pics, sorry!)

Next, I drilled holes in my driftwood where I wanted my wooden dowels to go.

Next, I dipped my dowels into glue

and placed them into my pre-drilled holes

After all of my dowels were in place, it was time to attach my driftwood into my wooden base.

To do this I drilled a large hole into my wooden base, poured in a little wood glue then placed my driftwood piece into the hole.

This part wasn’t as easy as the dowels were.

I had to try several times because my drill hole wasn’t the exact size, so I would drill more doing my very best NOT to drill through the entire base.

Once I got close, I decided to drill a screw into the driftwood, then into the base to ensure it would hold.

And here is my finished piece…

{ drum roll please, ha! }

I keep this driftwood tree in our master bathroom holding the jewelry I wear most.

Plus, it adds to our beach themed home and it’s pretty to boot !

Some of my other bracelets and rings sit on my dresser on an old wooden paper towel holder I got at Savers for $2.99 and painted off-white.

Works like a charm BTW!

So what do you use to hold your jewelry besides a jewelry box ??

If you are local and need some driftwood to make your own, send me a message and I would be happy to give you a piece from my stash !

Thanks for stopping by !
